Kel-Tec RFB

Kel-Tec RFB – ★★★★★ Assault Rifle

Good
Tags: Class: Assault Rifle Misc: Suomiface Role: DPS Skill: Selfbuff Acc Skill: Selfbuff FP Skill: Unique Tile: Buff Acc Tile: Buff Eva

Her skill consists of two parts:

  • Make her use rifle targeting (backline priority): Originally, the gimmick was useless. However, now she definitely has a niche considering how often Mica likes to toss in weird enemy formations.
  • Buff herself: Her stats are good to begin with, and the buff is beefy – this makes her an excellent AR for all purposes.

Overall solid. If you need her gimmick, she's amazing. If not...well, AR powercreep is real.

Additional Notes#

Dusk's Notes#

Her stat distribution is extremely weird, bringing her to the mid-point of an AR and a very weak RF. Compared to G11, she has 19 more FP and 20 more ACC but has 23 less ROF. At first glance, it seems to be a relatively good trade, however, with the HV ammo included, she only gained 27% FP in exchange for 30% ROF. Adding the ACC, it means that the stat distribution change only gives her a relatively small advantage.

In terms of pure power, her skill does give her an advantage over the generics (as in, G41), however, when she activates her skill, she targets the backline instead of the frontline. In theory, it sounds good, as it allows her to bypass the frontline to hit the backline, however, in practice, some issues can come up with this. More specifically, when she starts hitting the backline, she stops contributing damage to the frontline.

  • Against swarm enemy lineups, the enemies at the front may not die in time, allowing enemies to fire potshots at you, and you will take unexpected damage, and can snowball into terrible results if your other ARs couldn't manage to clear out the front line in-time as they pile upon you, as RFB alone does not have outputs like RF teams (and even RF teams have that same issue)
    • This can be especially devastating against certain enemies that you need to kill before they destroy you. Rodeleros, or Laser Bats, will jump to the front and charge up their laser beam. Having one of your primary DPS ignore it can screw you over. Tarantulas can also destroy you while RFB aims for the least threatening ones in the very back while ignoring the ones destroying your frontline.
  • Against enemy Guard/Scout + strong backline lineups, while she would start firing at the enemy backline, the other two ARs would have to try to kill the remaining frontline with 30-40% less damage output. Furthermore, in many cases, RFB alone could not kill the backline enemies in time, due to starting at 6s into the battle (6s ICD) and having low ROF, which means that the enemy backline will still shoot at you for a while.
    • While this can be mitigated, or even completely avoided by using a dedicated lineup, such as AUG+RFB, this will amplify the first issue where your units will ignore the enemies attacking your SMG in favor of enemies coming later. Also, an AUG+RFB lineup does not work efficiently with ROF buffs (as AUG doesn't need ROF) which RFB loves.

This does not mean that RFB is a useless unit, as she is quite a good unit in many cases as the enemy backlines get more dangerous in maps where you still need ARs for some other reasons. But it means that you must be MUCH more careful when using her over a generic. With a generic, you only need to care about DPS checks (can you kill the frontline before the backline kills you), and while that gets harder and harder to achieve as enemy stats increase, it is easier to manage. With a unit like RFB, while she can sometimes give you an advantage in specific fights, she can also be a double-edged sword if played stupidly.

A large difference between AUG and RFB is that AUG has 4s ICD, which means she starts hitting the backline earlier. However, RFB is not random and her results are relatively consistent.

Also note that, unless there are enemy backline enemies that have really high EVA in the future, the extra ACC boost from her skill only serves to reduce the chance which you get screwed over by RNG (by missing and forcing RFB to fire an extra shot) as Jaegers and Vespids don't have high EVA. While it is still not bad, it is also somewhat redundant.
